DrillApp. Improving skills in safe handling of weapons

Research Phase

Defined the project goals and objectives, understanding the purpose of the "Drill" project.

Conducted user research to understand the target audience, their needs, preferences, and pain points related to weapon handling safety.

Analyzed competitors and similar mil-tech educational apps to identify gaps and opportunities.

User Personas and User Stories

Created detailed user personas representing different types of users, such as gun enthusiasts, athletes, professionals, and safety-conscious individuals.

Developed user stories that outline specific scenarios in which users would interact with the "Drill" app.

Information Architecture and Wireframing

Structured the app's information architecture to ensure intuitive navigation and flow.

Created low-fidelity wireframes outlining the app's main screens and their content organization.

Prototyping

Built interactive prototypes using Figma to visualize the app's functionality and user interactions.

Tested the prototype internally to identify any usability issues or design flaws.

Usability Testing

Conducted usability testing sessions with potential users to gather feedback on the prototype's usability, functionality, and overall experience.

Used the insights from testing to refine the design and address user concerns.

Visual Design

Developed the visual style of the app, including color schemes, typography, and graphical elements.

Designed high-fidelity mockups for all screens, ensuring a consistent and visually appealing user interface.

Animation and Interaction Design

Incorporated subtle animations and microinteractions to enhance the user experience and guide users through the app's features.

User Testing and Iteration

Conducted additional rounds of user testing with the high-fidelity prototype to validate design decisions and uncover any remaining issues.

Iterated on the design based on user feedback and testing results.

Finalization and Handoff

Prepared design assets and specifications for development, including detailed design guidelines, asset libraries, and interaction documentation.

Collaborated closely with developers to ensure a smooth transition from design to implementation.

Launch and Post-Launch Evaluation

We did not have such that I would send all the layouts when I've done my job.

Since this is a startup, I pushed the screens to work through Zeplin during the whole process.

We launched the app at the beginning of 2023, and you can find it in AppStore and Google Play Store. We continue to work on it.

We have already added new functionality and continue to improve our application.

In August 2023, just under half a year after launch, we reached 55,000 ad-free downloads worldwide. The app is available in 6 languages, and we continue to expand into new markets.

We plan to add many new features in the coming year and are already planning to improve the UI of our application.
