Uber Interstellar - Wireframes

I was challenged to create a set of wireframes for a mobile app from a fictitious company. This company is Uber Interstellar, and they are working on a time travel app. The challenge was used to test my creative skills: I don't like to invent new UI patterns, but they wanted to see if I could. The app has four major workflows that need wireframes, and I was given 48 hours to complete the challenge. All of the text and images (except the logo) were created by me during this timeframe.

My research process was limited to Google searches and in-person interviews with my spouse and my 8-year-old child. My 8-year-old provided some of the most useful feedback I gathered during this phase (e.g. "What does this thing actually do?") and I incorporated my findings into several iterations of the final product.

These wireframes show that we can re-use existing UI patterns from analogous contexts to achieve creative results. In this case, I combined patterns from airline travel, music players, T.V. remote controls, and video games to create this intriguing interface.

These wireframes provide a solid foundation for developing screens in code, but they also are the scaffolding for more in-depth UI work. UX designers can use wireframes to communicate with both engineers as well as other designers to set the tone and improve usability across the entire product.
