The Goal

Designing a cake shop app for Zana Bakery that allows users to easily order from the comfort of their homes and have it delivered to them.

My Responsibilities

My responsibilities for this project included conducting interviews, paper and digital wireframing, low and high fidelity prototyping, conducting usability studies, accounting for accessibility, and iterating on designs.

Summary

I conducted interviews and created empathy maps to understand the users I’m designing for and their needs. A primary user group identified through researchworking adults who don’t have time to stand in lines at the bakery. This user group confirmed initial assumptions about Zana’s bakery customers, but research also revealed that time was not the only factor limiting users from coming to the bakery. Other user problems included obligations, interests, or challenges that made it difficult to visit the bakery in person.

USABILITY STUDY: Findings

Hi Fidelity Prototypes

The final high-fidelity prototype presented cleaner user flows for ordering a cake and checking out. It also met user needs for better classification and categorization of various cakes. 

Takeaways

While designing the Zana’s Bakery app, I learned that the first ideas for the app are onlythe beginning of the process. Usability studies and peer feedback influenced each iteration of the app’s designs.
