Almanac is one of our favorite clients, and we've designed close to 100 different beer labels during our time working with the bay area brewery, but by far their most popular beers are those in their year-round core line, including their flagship LOVE IPA. So we were excited to take a fresh look at the brand packaging several years after our initial designs hit the shelves.
The direction from Damian, Almanac's CEO, for the brand refresh was simplicity - how could we retain the brand equity already established by Almanac's customers’ familiarity with their most popular beers, while at the same time updated, simplifying, and moving in a cleaner, bolder direction. The final result was a design that might not be drastically different to the casual observer, but all parts of the label have been touched to trim down the number of fonts, colors, and extraneous elements involved.
The project would not have been complete without the stellar lettering work of Erik Marinovich, who also refreshed the wordmark he originally created for Almanac, now with a new super clean and minimalist appearance. The launch of the new core line is also accompanied by the always brilliant stop-motion animation work of Jenna Wallace.
