Cauda equina syndrome is a condition that affects the spinal cord . It may cause a variety of symptoms, including difficulty with walking, feeling numbness or tingling in the lower extremities and difficulty with bowel and bladder control. The cause of cauda equina syndrome is unclear, however, it's believed to be due to compression or inflammation of the cauda equina nerve, that is responsible for communicating between the brain and lower extremities.
