Last month we had a short 3 day design sprint around improving global search in the Shopify admin.
Our old search had a lot of problems: it was hard to figure out why a result appeared sometimes, search results showed limited context, and it was basically impossible to filter down your search results.
For the redesign we wanted to address these issues and also highlight relevant and actionable information with the search result. For example, if you're searching for a customer, we include their email and phone number in the search results so you can get in touch with them in fewer steps.
We ended up building the bulk of this project in our latest hack days, and we just recently shipped it out to 100% of Shopify stores.
