Sporadic iOS app

Sporadic is my first real-world design project. As the only designer, I am fulfilling each step a designer would take when tasked with a new project. I am wireframing, conducting user research, prototyping, onboarding, branding, creating an app icon, and researching App Store keywords and data.

The Problem

Sporadic is an iOS app that motivates users to stay active. The issue is the over-saturated market of intensive workout apps that can easily overwhelm, crowd your schedule, and break the bank. People who aren't looking for a heavy workout routine don't have many options when it comes to staying active. It is easy for our target audience to do nothing because they can't find something they enjoy or can afford.

The Solution

Sporadic is a solution for the market of people who are failing to stay active, yet don't want to get into a heavy workout routine. With this understanding, the goal is to give the user a solution that doesn't require expensive workout equipment and a pricey subscription.

It is ultimately an app that keeps the user motivated to workout, not an app that replaces a workout tracker. It is a supplement to help motivate.

As the name implies, Sporadic is all about keeping things random. After setting up a group of exercises, users will be notified of challenges throughout their week. Challenges are generated from their exercises they chose at the difficulty they set.

Onboarding

Onboarding can be a crucial step in the design process. If the onboarding process fails to capture the user's attention, and doesn't help the user comprehend the app, it will lead to frustration. To help users get started, we found onboarding to be a necessary step.

Designing the app icon was a new task for me. We want to represent the idea of simple, at-home exercises in a recognizable way. The squats icon I made for the exercise represents the letter S, which is why I chose it for the icon. I then used a variety of blending modes and our color palette to match branding, giving a modern and minimalist logo design.

Sporadic has further taught me the significance of user research, wireframing, and prototyping. Furthermore, this project has taught me new things, such as App Store keyword research, onboarding, prototyping, and working within Apple's guidelines.
