Waynes Boards

By day, I'm the Art Director at Waynes Environmental Services in Birmingham. I was brought in to replace the relationship they'd had with an agency and eventually build an internal team.

Right after I started—I mean like, I hadn't even finished mandatory new hire training—I get pulled into my boss's office and he asks how quickly I can get some concepts out for billboards. They've never done billboards before. They want to make it a "significant investment." I'm terrified.

So I do a few that are hella complex and expensive, build outs and the whole 9. While I'm driving home one night looking at the boards in town, they're all so complex. So cluttered. Who reads all this? No one. You have like 2 seconds to connect with someone on something.

One of the common questions I got when I took this job is "so what exactly does Waynes *do*." These simple, punchy boards answer that question.

The pale yellow is a connection to our work trucks. Every truck has been painted this color since Wayne (no longer owner) bought a Datsun truck in the 80s.

We had to do an ad for the May printing of the Parade of Homes publication here in metro Birmingham. These images are the actual half page ads.
