My family and I don't love him because he was famous, or even because he was Spock. We love him because he inspired us to explore, to learn and to reason. He was part of our crew, and formed so many young minds. As NASA has commented, he is the reason so many trekkies went on to work in the field.
We want to boldly go, and whether through his poetry, photography, music, theater works, or his time as our favorite vulcan, he inspired us to do so.
He has been, and always shall be our friend.
