Lessons Learned

Throughout our process of researching and exploring the issues within the Canadian healthcare system, the biggest lesson we learned was that a complex system requires complex solutions. Initially, our focus was going to be on the Canadian healthcare system as a whole. We quickly found that the issues within and caused by the Canadian Healthcare system spanned far beyond our scope of expectations.

However, with a number of interviews with healthcare professionals and people with knowledge in this industry, we learned how prevalent and important eHealth is to the healthcare system. Along with this, we learned how there are many issues surrounding the implementation of this technology, along with widespread hopes for its success. This is why we decided to limit our scope to issues surrounding and related to the eHealth and technology.

When developing an understanding of the problem and solution landscape, we ran into gaps within each of them. These gaps were easy to identify, but difficult to provide suggestions for solutions. With this, we repetitively ran into gaps in our knowledge and understanding of the interconnected factors at play which exacerbate the gaps within the system. We acknowledge that while this report does not provide extensive coverage of the healthcare system as a whole, we were able to work with the information that we did have to illustrate the major, most impactful problems and existing solutions within the system.
