Spot! Dog Walking App

Intro to Spot!

Here is my mobile responsive concept for a dog walking app đŸ¶

“Spot!” is the app that will focus on the the ability of dog owners to track the walks their furry friends take while there are busy or away from home.

My Role

As product designer, I was responsible for the end-to-end process of researching, building, and designing the Spot! app. I explored existing product problems through interviews and market research, developed design solutions to solve these problems while applying changes based on the users' feedback and implemented a final, branded, visual design.

Design Process

The below design process demonstrates the iterative model of the work.

The requirements are refined and the design evolves through this cycle.

"I am really looking for something easier to use than just calling a friend."

User Flows

I wanted a quick and simple onboarding experience but still, give the user the power to customize their needs. I want to get them on board first and build their profile from there.

Spot! Wireframes

After collecting all the ideas, flows and needed functionalities I went into wire-framing and built the visual design from there.

Design Systems

Creating a system for speed, scalability and consistency.

The colors, pictures and icons are friendly, bright and inspired by the colors of the 60's and 70's art nouveau and pop art style. I wanted the users to be able to "spot" the brand from anywhere! Spot! owners are also able to track with our walkers so we wanted the colors to promote a fun and friendly sense of collaboration in this peer-to-peer digital environment.

Component Library

I wanted to specifically design with scalability in mind. To do this, I made component libraries with variations for easy design iterations.

Ideation and Visual Design

Owners can easily find and connect with dog walkers in a way that doesn’t feel too forced. The app allows owners to chat with potential walkers as well as with current walkers. The app also allows dog owners to track the walks their dogs are taking as the the walkers check in on a map. Walkers are also available to live chat on the walks so the owner can feel sure the walker is paying attention to their pet’s needs.

"Accountability breeds response-ability."

User Testing and Iteration

To test the design I sent out a prototype to users from the research interview.

I recorded the users testing prototypes, received feedback and got useful insights on the UX of each page.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I wanted to make a digital experience where dog owners can easily find and connect with dog walkers in a way that doesn’t feel forced. The app allows owners to chat with potential dog - walkers as well as with current walkers. The app also allows dog owners to track the walks their dogs are taking as the the walkers check in on a map. Walkers are also available to live chat on the walks so the owner can feel sure the walker is paying attention to their pet’s needs.
