Stick: dog service app case study

Role: UX Research, UX Design, UI Design

Timeline: March – June 2022 | Tools: Figma, FigJam

I have kickstarted my product design journey after completing Dribbble's product design course. This app is one of the concept projects from the course.

Stick is a dog service app that provides pet care near you at any time. Whether it is a quick dog walk or an overnight stay away for your furry friend, we believe in "sticking together" and helping you in need.

"I have used dog walking services in the past. I used them because I was out at work Mon-Fri, as was my partner and the dogs weren’t getting the exercise, attention and mental stimulation they needed. We used this service 3x a week and would use something like this again."

The goal of this project is to fulfill the need of the user to allow them to successfully be provided with a service to give the pet and owners a sense of ease knowing their pet is taken care of when they are unavailable.

I kept everything minimal and clean to make the onboarding process super simple for the app users. The hope is that the user will still reach the destination of a successful service booking. Building long-term onboarding effectiveness is essential to be easy and enjoyable to use.

For my User Research, I had an average of users from 20-45 years old who consider themselves technology savvy. So, the UI design was influenced a lot by popular dating app cards for finding a caretaker nearby. I also kept in mind accessibility concerns with color. Contrast, a plugin on Figma was a really useful tool to avoid difficulties of sight or readability, as well as making sure the pt size of the text was not below 16-17pt.

To push this project further I would like to expand my prototyping and work on

  • More screens and try out more input, pressed button variants

  • Page transitions and page scrolls in the design flow

During User Research I discussed different ideas to include in the app which would be

  • Add a community section to meet other dog owners in your area

  • Adding a dog health diary to easily access while you are away and use on your own time

  • Creating a reward system for using the app (similar to your 10th free coffee punch card)
