Sci-Fi Helmet (personal project)

Thought it would be fun to share the beginning stages of a new personal project inspired by the recently released Blender Cookie Sci-Fi Helmet modeling course taught by Kent Trammell. The guys over at CG Cookie do a wonderful job teaching a variety of 3D subjects/topics. I spent the past couple of days watching the entire course and picked up many helpful modeling tips, including a sculpting workflow to sketch out various forms that can later be used as the basis for hard-surface modeling and retopology.

What you see here are a few views in an initial stage of the retopology process for a portion of the rear/top of the helmet. I'm still refining the geometry & assembling a kit of parts on other areas. There's still a lot left to model & detail. After the modeling/retopology process is complete, I will then start focusing on materials, decals, and lighting. Will be sharing more as the project progresses.
