Last month I went to UMSL to hear Laverne Cox speak and while she covered many topics within her talk, she talked about solidarity within all spheres of society. She had a question answer session at the end of her talk and a student from Saint Louis University gave her a bracelet with the phrase

"Hands together. Can't shoot."

This phrase has stuck with me and I think there is a lesson to be learned for everyone; not just in St. Louis but the world over. Listening teaches understanding. Understanding teaches perspective. Perspective leads to learning. We could call stand to learn a thing or to as I know we all don't have it figured out. I hope that we can all use these events to start conversation and discourse.
