Evening Crowd - Mayan God

I'm using a technique with the pen tool to achieve one colour shading without using gradients. This is only halfway done at this point; there's an ancient circular calendar being designed behind him with the same effect that'll be posted once my forearm recovers from these 14,000 nodes.
