Yayoi Kusama

To celebrate this International Women’s Day, myself and three other artists teamed up with Domestika to illustrate some of our favourite female icons. I chose Japanese visual artist Yayoi Kusama, as with over 8 decades experience - much of it navigating New York’s white, male -dominated art scene - she's arguably one of the world’s most important artists.

Kusama has also overcome her share of adversity - she has experienced visual hallucinations since she was a child, and at 92 she’s still creating work, while she resides voluntarily in a psychiatric hospital. Read more about Kusama and find out which female icons the other artists picked here
