Local Gems: Lagendorf Park District Golf Course

I've been wanting to do a series of illustrations that pay tribute to my favorite (often hidden) "local gems". The places are all a bit quirky, most have virtually no branding and are usually the kind of place people drive right past. BUT. For those that do know about these places...they are deeply loved and seen as hidden gems with a fiercely loyal following.

First up on the list is Lagendorf: a 5 hole "golf course" that has more in common with a forest preserve than an actual golf course. It's hidden between a strip mall, baseball fields, and a train line. There's no dress code, no golf attendants, no score cards, no pro shop...there's really not a whole lot. Which is make makes it the beloved place it is. Wear flip flops, bring your baby, do whatever you want--no one cares. It's the cheapest, lowest bar set for golf and that's what makes it so fun.
