My interpretation of the song spoke to contending with the complex emotions involved in the wake of a relationship reaching an end, while still enmeshed by the feelings that once held the connection together. The static noise patterns like you’d sometimes see flash at the end of a VHS tape on analog TVs are a metaphor for the sometimes haunting aftermath experienced in the process of contemplating the decision to move on—allowing one door to close, where another might open . .
