PLAYA Music App

ABOUT THIS PROJECT
PLAYA is an iOS music app that allows users to tailor their very own music experience throughout the day. Choosing from hundreds of thousands of songs, users can make playlists, pick individual songs and create custom stations.

MY ROLE
I was responsible for the User Interface Design, including competitive market research, wireframing and finished interface design.

OBJECTIVE
Music lovers want to have control over what songs and playlists they listen to. My objective was to make Playa a simple yet robust app that delivers users favorite tunes, and even introduces recommendations for their next favorite tune.

COMPETITION ANALYSIS
There are plenty of music apps
on the market. So I needed to understand how many of these apps functioned and what set them apart. The aim here was to look at the most successful patterns and heuristics for best usability.

Low & Mid Fidelity Wireframes
Next I honed in on some key functionalities that would be needed and started sketching some low-fidelity wireframes, illlustrating some basic navigation. Next I created more detailed, mid-fi wireframes in Sketch.

LOOK & FEEL
While developing the wireframes I also needed to develop the look and feel for the app. I wanted to evoke excitement and energy, so I curated a number of visuals - a moodboard so to speak - that would capture the look and feel I was after.

COLOR, TYPOGRAPHY & ICONOGRAPHY
From there I could decide on a color palette and typography that would pair well together and complement the theme. I also began developing the icons and buttons needed for the specific actions and features of the app.

HIGH FIDELITY WIREFRAMES
With the mid-fi wireframes completed and the look, feel and UI elements created, I then implemented the final design and populated the wireframes with photos.
