el valle del rio grande

El Rio Grande Valle or The Rio Grande Valley
This is where I grew up and currently live. It's right at the border of mexico at the most southern tip of Texas, where the population is mostly Hispanic. My appreciation for this place has grown a lot more in the last 10 years, something I thought would never happen. Anyway, this was done for a friend who runs a cute salon here in the RGV. She wanted it to feature native things so I chose to illustrate a prickly pear cactus, green jay (which isn't very green here), Heart-leaf Hibiscus, a yucca plant (which has an edible but illegal to pick), and something that isn't really native but that is all over the valley, PALM TREES. lol
