Repousse

This was a piece made in collaboration with the boys Land for the ‘Peace Flags’ show @ Monster Children in Los Angeles. Using elements from the gorgeous flags that Ryan and Caleb created, I employed the ancient technique of chasing and repoussé to bring the piece to life. Repoussé is a meticulous art form that involves using a variety dies and punches in tandem with a mallet to create the relief forms, in this case, in brass. These brass pieces were then affixed to a panel covered in Japanese indigo fabric and then framed. It took a month of steady work to complete. I was very honored to be asked to work on this, and was more than happy with how it turned out. A very spiritual experience indeed.
