The Bell Jar | Cover Design

I was really hesitant to read The Bell Jar at first. I didn't know much about it except that it was (according to the synopsis) about a young woman's slow descent into madness, and I was pretty sure if I read it I was going to start going insane right alongside the main character. Despite this fear, I gave it a shot. And I'll admit it was honestly a tough read for me – but it ended up being the depictions of physical pain that affected me more than the mental anguish. Now whenever I catch a glimpse of the book I'm reminded of that pain, and I cringe a bit, but I also strongly feel like it's an important story about coming to terms with the way the world works, the imperfection of living, and the way we struggle inside our own heads and with our own ideas of how things are supposed to be.
