02 | Solange — When I Get Home

This album is pure art. Solange has always had that artistic sensibility that makes her stand alone from all the R&B artists of the moment. I remember being late to stan A Seat At the Table —and I fucking regret not including it in the Top 10 of 2016— but I thought that with that album Solange had set the bar too high that she was hardly going to top it. She proved me wrong. With When I Get Home, she took her artistic vision to a whole new level and redirected it to a new path… a fresh, real and honest one. Inspired by her native Houston, she merged two things that I never thought would stick so good together: R&B and cowboys. The experimentation in this production is mesmerizing and the small interludes and clips that sound throughout the LP give sense and meaning to its concept. PS. The visuals that accompanied this album convinced me that Solange can turn anything into literally art that stands by its own. A queen.
