Reference gathering comes after the sketch phase-- the idea being that I want the ref to support the image, not dictate it.

Lots of embarrassing photos are taken at this point. Paper crowns and scarves stand in for helmets and armor.

The final drawing was done on Rives BFK with Derwent "Inktense" pencils. It was scrubbed a bit, sealed with medium, and then scanned for finishing.
