Daruma

To celebrate the beginning of 2014 I gave away one of my illustrations and also helped someone fulfill their new year’s resolution.

In my opinion the Daruma Doll perfectly represents the required efforts to achieve a goal.

In Japan these dolls are used as a reminder and motivation to achieve goals or huge tasks. The owner of the doll paints a round pupil on the right eye when he establishes his goal; when this is achieved he can proceed and paint the other eye’s pupil. A singled eyed Daruma tends to be situated where it can be visible. In this way, it will be a constant reminder of the work that needs to be done in order to achieve the objective. This dolls also represent optimism, persistence and determination.

On the 24th of January 2014 I did a draft with the people that Followed me on Behance and Facebook at that time and I gave this original drawing to a lucky winner.
