The Upstate New York chapter of the Art Library Society of North America was in need of a new logo for primary use on their website and social media presence. I created a mark that incorporates a modern art sensibility with shapes representative of upstate New York. The three colored quadrilaterals correspond to the three main regions of “upstate” New York: The Capital Region, The Adirondacks, and Western New York. Together they form a unique shape reminiscent both of the mountains the region is known for and the shape of the state of New York.
The geometry was carefully chosen and refined to produce a unique and identifiable shape in both black and white and color contexts that will reproduce well at small sizes (business cards, website headers) and look great large (banners, signage) as well.
