Here's some early work we did with SCVNGR (now LevelUp).
This was the core screen for a scavenger hunt game. We presented the challenge on a centered white card, which would flip over when the challenge was met. The lower section showed how other users completed the challenge, and helped with social proof.
The aspect I like most about this design is the use of contrast and depth. There are many messages and controls around the screen, but your eyes easily focus on the main content and actions.
