Reimagining Classics: MSN Messenger App

Have you ever imagined what MSN would look like as an app if it had survived until the smartphones revolution?

If MSN had an app, it would probably change its user flow since it was only built for desktop. I also don't believe they would have kept some of its features and obviously they there would be a rebrand, but this is not the idea of this project.

When reimagining this extinct software, I thought of keeping some elements from different version releases. It's not just about design, it's about the memories of when we used the product and how much we can relate to its features. Yet, I did think how we could improve its UX if MSN was to be resurrected to nowadays age.

It is quite likely that MSN would have a story function like snapchat. After Facebook adopted this feature not only to its own product but also to Instagram and WhatsApp, the same happened to Youtube. So I strongly believe that this is a must.

I personally like the option of being able to sign out from the app, something that you can't do on WhatsApp. However, the notifications that show when another user is online could be very annoying, so I would allow the user to deactivate this option in the settings.

The categories which specify the types of chats might not be to everyone's taste, but it's hard to say without user research. So I would also allow the user to be able to remove them as they wish and maybe change the UI in future releases.

One more feature that I would like to have is being able to have custom status to specific contacts.
You know, for those people that you don't want to reply to messages but you don't want to block them at the same time. 🤭

Please let me know your thoughts. Would you use MSN again if it was brought back to life?
