America Day (July 4th 2020)

While there may be a lot of injustices in the United States today, there's a lot to be proud of too. America has come a long way (still has a lot way to go, I'm not ignoring that or discounting it, or condoning it).

A little bit ago, I read the book *Nothing to Envy: Ordinary lives in North Korea*. If you want to really be grateful for American life, read that book. We have it really good here. There's a lot to be grateful for, like access to food, clean water, free speech, agency to choose what you do with your life, and so much more.

Because we have it so good, it's easy to get easily upset about little things that don't really matter. Right now we as Americans question if we really believe that All Men (and women) are created equal and if so, why are we not living up to that belief? Why are we not treating everyone with kindness without regard to race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or financial status?

I'm choosing to celebrate Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness by reminding myself that this country was founded on the ideals that we are all created equal even if that wasn't executed well then, it can be now. It was founded on the idea that God is the ultimate Judge, the ultimate benefactor in all things American. We've lost God in America, and we need God again if we really want to sustain the idea that we're all equals.

Enjoy the 4th of July everyone!
