the clever eye of @mattrossi http://dribbble.com/mattrossidesigns suggested i make all the icons on the top round, which i agree with and i actually had the logo there earlier on like shown here...

i quickly revisited it just for idea purposes - any preferences with these?

this icon represents your main inbox, feed, stream where all of your chats come in - whatever you want to call it is up to you ;)

i'm just curious your thoughts. after all, this is YOUR product everyone :)

    thanks again @mattrossi for thought!

    (sorry for the rough gif)

Good call @matt rossi - would definitely help make that section look really solid.

I like the logo as well. You could probably do some pretty cool interactions with it as well. Perhaps mimic the progress indicator when someone is typing but on an 'all chat' level not just individual chats. It would be a nice visual cue.

Bravo to you and the team @Dann Petty. The icon that I would freshen up is the search icon. Seems you use the same one in a lot of your designs. I'm nitpicking, and it's also a very generic icon to begin with, but it could use a subtle facelift as well.

I feel like all three icons look a bit too similar, especially if you're going with the Hum logo as the chat icon. So, my choice would be the standard chat bubble.

I'd go with the third option :) It works well with the other two.

Logo balances the 3 best - since they too are hollow.

Plus brands it more without forcing it.

Yup, speech bubble with the "h" works best for me.. That look so Zen.... (O)hummmmmmm.... ;)

I think the best for consistency and reinforcing the brand message is the H in the bubble but personally I would look at customizing the @ symbol a little more to give it a bit more balance.

@Dann Petty yeah the logo, since the other two follow a similar style. They're hollow and it all looks more consistent.

Since the icon represents a home-like behavior, I think it's acceptable and best to use the logo with the H. If it were a "post" or "write" icon, I would be deceptive. Well done.

Prefer the logo, looks really good with the two other icons, would also try inverting the logo, so the bubble is filled and the H is cut out from it, it would have more a speech bubble/inbox feeling. just and idea

I would say the logo, it goes well with the other ones ;)

I would use the circular chat bubble.
In a menu bar like this, the logo could also represent a link to some kind of 'about page', which might confuse some users or prevent them from using the button in the first place.

I agree with @Rick Waalders. What if you use a stroked circular chat bubble that it not filled @Dann?

Thanks @Dann Petty for the kind words and for showing us these options. I think the two round options work nicely. Best of luck!
