Type Tweaks

I spent the wee hours of this morning working on some changes for the new design of my site. Smaller type, bigger line heights. I tend not to drift below the default 16px font size on mobile, but Mercury ScreenSmart is nice and readable even down at 14px.

Also, there’s something really satisfying about titles that fit perfectly in the container.

@Daniel Eden by the way just wanted to say I really like what you did with the videos in your portfolio, nothing shows an experience like a nice vid. Props.

@Strahinja Todorović I’m actually stoked you got that takeaway. I was reading Digest and it really inspired me. It was so beautifully designed, and that’s what gave me the push to redesign my site. I ditched the “classic” look I’d settled on with Hoefler Text & Requiem, forced myself to use a typeface I didn’t like at the time, and tried something completely unusual to me. I’m really pleased with he outcome, and I’m looking forward to iterating this design.

I have to say I'm not quite feeling this redesign, it lacks some of the personality of your last version of the site and while I know you're a big fan of stripping everything back I think this one has perhaps taken too much out overall.

@James Young thanks for the feedback, man. I know what you mean, it does seem almost sterile at times, but I think I prefer that to what I’d ended up with before; the design of the last site came across as pompous to me. I tried to come far away from that. In doing so, I may’ve lost a lot of personality, but this design like the last and the last one before that will go through many iterations.

@Daniel Eden No worries, I like that you work in public and iterate :)
