Raja festival of Odisha

Happy Raja! 🎉

Just as the earth prepares itself to quench its thirst by the incoming rain, "Raja", the most popular among numerous festivals in Odisha, is celebrated for three consecutive days in the month of June!

The word Raja itself in Odia means menstruation and this ritual of celebrating the menstrual cycle of Mother Earth through Raja festival is an acknowledgement of the fact that the society had no taboo regarding the menstruation of women in past days. Not in many parts of the country except Odisha, celebrate this festival and it is even unknown to many.

The most vivid and enjoyable memories one has of the Raja gaiety is the rope-swings on big banyan trees and the lyrical folk-songs that one listens from the nubile beauty enjoying the atmosphere.

In frame are me and Satabdi ! As we both belong to Odisha, we love our culture, the rich heritage we have and the delicious cuisine that we serve! So with lots of love, and with a strong hope that the farmers get a good harvest, we wish you all, a Happy Raja! 🎉
