Mount Hawthorn Primary School STEM Mural

The WES mural was born out of a brand I created for Mount Hawthorn Primary School (MHPS). Initially creating the concept of WES, designing it from the ground up, it then moved onto the next phase of implementing the design onto the walls.

During the design phase of the mural, the staff and pupils of MHPS collaborated to come up with his name, WES - standing for Waste, Energy and Sustainability. The four key components to WES are Waste Free Warriors (Waste component), The Power Rangers (Energy component), Sustainability Super Hero's (Sustainability component) and You Move (Reducing Carbon Emissions component).

The whole concept of was WES (the school sustainability mascot) was created to help inspire the kids to come up with new ways to reduce the school carbon footprint. Working with the CSIRO STEM Professionals in Schools program and the ClimateClever Initiative, Wes is helping us to focus on new ways to cut energy, waste and water usage at the school.

The icons for each component are repeated throughout the design of the mural to reiterate the importance of the message the school is instilling into the students.

MHPS colours were used as the colours for the mural ensuring brand consistency was carried through from concept to completion.
