Nokia PhotoBeamer

Here’s a snippet of work from 2013 during my Nokia days.

PhotoBeamer was an app pre-loaded on the Nokia X devices which allowed you to ‘beam’ photos from your phone to any screen via the browser.

I designed this little app in keeping with the platform specific design language.

I remember the horizontal thumbnail list under the fullscreen photo was technically ‘out of scope’. From a UX perspective - not being able to see what the next image that you about to beam was a big no no for me. You can imagine why…

I designed it this way anyway and put together this video to demo some key interactions and animations. In the end it got built this way 🏆

Back then there weren’t really any designer friendly prototyping tools so I composed this in After Effects. Now there are a ton of great prototyping tools.

For sure, I’d build this in ProtoPie today.
