During Friday morning rush hour on November 3, 2006, in protest of what is now the loss of many lives in Iraq, peace activist Malachi Ritscher burned himself to death next to Chicago's busiest freeway.
The news didn't cover it, and nobody gave a fuck.
Some photographs of Malachi. His last photo, standing in front of a statue. A high quality photo of him protesting from a story that MSNBC ran about him 3 weeks after his death. (all photos are from Malachi's life, not his death)
His story has deeply affected me.

^That's fucked up man.
This deserves to go straight to the front page.
"Liking" this to spread the story. I did not previously hear about it and I do give a fuck.
Wow. Never heard about it until researching based on this shot and found the story: The quiet death of Malachi Ritscher
If you have a negative opinion of this, I'm not interested.
Keep it to yourself.
to give up one's own existence to shed light on something you believe in is the epitome of selflessness.
Imagine the courage it takes to willingly burn yourself to death for a cause... it reminds me of the Monk's during the Vietnam war, burning themselves alive in protest.
Interesting that the news shows didn't cover this. Although in reality, we all know why... With the current events in Egypt it is a strong reminder that things need to change.
I've heard many times that self-immolation is the most painful way to die. That type of sacrifice demands attention.
This is amazing.
Feels weird liking this shot.
I am mad that I was not even aware of this. Morgan, how did you find out about this?
Someone posted a TIL post on Reddit a few months back about it. I researched and wept.
I heard Crucifixion is the most painful AND humiliating.
Go ahead and give that a try, Aubrey.
I've personally known a dude who'd been crucified by the I.N.L.A (a paramilitary similar to the I.R.A.) in Belfast. Also, known the youngest kid to ever be knee-capped by the I.R.A. (had both his knee-caps shot out with a pistol) — I still think self-immolation sounds worse.
I just wanted to add a link to some news coverage about his death — of course it's from the UK: http://www.guardian.co.uk/news/blog/2006/nov/28/malachiritsche1
Intriguing story Morgan.
Intense stuff.. really proud that a forum such as Dribbble can actually discuss this in a mature, and respectful way.
Nice Work. Fantastic Thread.
