With the current state of things, due to the COVID-19 mayhem, it's looking like one of my dream projects won't see the light of day...
A couple of months back I was approached by The National (one of my favourite bands in the world), asking if I was interested in designing a series of posters for their upcoming (now most likely cancelled) Melbourne shows. It was probably the best email I've received, in almost 13 years of being a designer.
The band were performing 3 nights in a row, with Phoebe Bridgers (one of my other favourite musicians), at Melbourne's Palais Theatre. The band were interested in exploring a series of posters that had a theme connecting them, or that worked as a triptych.
I was pretty happy with how this set came together as a triptych, but I don't think they worked particularly well as individual posters. In the end, we went with a very different concept, that I can't share at the moment – but I think it answers the brief a little better than this. Hopefully, the shows will be rescheduled once the world is back on track, and I'll share those designs at a later date.
