Thank you for joining us for this step into the unknown, the official Volvo Cars Playoff. We hope you are as excited as we are. Take a look at the rules below and get ready to play ball with Volvo.
The background is that we just released our new adaptive digital displays. It's basically an eight-inch high-resolution digital display with the ability to show anything. We’ve configured it to have three interchangeable UIs depending on personal preference of the driver. Check out this video for a better understanding http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=S0uGFHxN4-M#t=39s
Now we want to pass the ball to the dribbble community through a playoff where we let you guys design a new display layout with all the flare you look for in a dashboard. You can use the entire area of the display and the sky’s the limit. When we do this, we have to be a little bit conservative due to laws, regulations and such. Fortunately you don’t have to care about that, as long as there’s a speedometer, you’re good to go. Take a look at our current configurations and please feel encouraged to improve what you see.
This game is about showcasing creativity, innovation and a sense for what a future auto consumer might want and need in terms of design.
Oh, and just to let you know, we will not be using any designs that are created for this playoff. This is purely for fun. It’s a way for us to get in touch with you and to bring the most creative people around the world into our process.
• Rebound this shot (only rebounds of this shot will be counted)
• Submit one or several shots of your version of the dashboard
• Like your favorite shots to help us pick a winner
• Take a break from work and be part of the future of the automotive industry.
Please do not redesign the Volvo logotype.
The three contributions with the most likes will be presented on the official Volvo Design blog (wedesignvolvo.tumblr.com) as well as reviewed by Andreas Nilsson, Design Director - Strategic and Interaction at Volvo Cars. In addition we will publish interviews with them on the blog.

Haha, Volvo on Dribbble!
I think @Dash might like this one. He's pretty good at stuff like this ;)
@WeDesignVolvo You are "Velcome"!!!
All you get is a mention on the Volvo blog??? Really?
Nice! You need to check the dates in the legal section though!
I think it could do with a better prize.
Sounds like a spec work...
@Mark James Thank you Mark :)
@ludwiczakpawel Read carefully. None of the designs will be used by Volvo, and to quote them, "This is purely for fun. It’s a way for us to get in touch with you and to bring the most creative people around the world into our process." We think that's pretty cool.
Came in expecting to win a Volvo, then I saw the PDF & the prize..
@Dribbble maybe you're right. but on the other hand they don't have to use any of the designs but they can "get inspired". i don't want to blame anyone, but you have to agree that similar "offer" made by some other company would sound a little bit creepy...
@ludwiczakpawel We prefer not to deal with hypotheticals. :) Volvo isn't going to use any of the designs. We hate spec work as much as you do. It hurts designers and hurts the industry. You'll never have to fight us on this.
Guys! For once, a company is on there and understands how Dribbble works. Of course their designers might be inspired, that's why we come here too.
@Louis-André Labadie Thanks for your comment, it echoes our thoughts in having this contest. We think it's insanely exciting that a well-established company outside the web space gets Dribbble and wants to engage the design community in new ways.
This look fun, but not to sound harsh, there is no actual prize here, and Volvo as company can get bunch of dashboard ideas for free.
There is no actual prizes here? YES! Well honestly i could understand if some god-know company is hosting this and they dont have money for any actual prize at all, but we are talking about Volvo, and one good prize of few of them will be nothing for company of that size.
Even if they say it wont be used by Volvo some parts/ideas/solutions will be at least. Cheap way to get free ideas, especially from big company as Volvo is, and i found that a bit hypocritical.
So i bet that most of good designers here, which could definitely think and design something rather unique and "out of the box" wont even bother to design anything for this playoff.
@WeDesignVolvo Laughing at your so called prizes :D
Awesome! Good luck to everyone, can't wait to see what we can come up with!
" The Play Ball with WeDesignVolvo Contest (the "Contest") is open to individuals eighteen (18) years of age or older " that's a shame
@Minnix The point of the Playoff is to have fun. Not win prizes :) That said, connecting with the designers at Volvo and the exposure on their blog is rather priceless.
Fantastic work shot! with full details! great man!! welcome!
