Japan IV — I was inspired to make this map of Japan in a modernist/mid-century advertising style, which was developed to work well in print in black & white. Given this limited palette, designers made use of texture and contrast to make the prominent features or messages stand out. For this reason, I have designed the map at a small scale without the usual cartographic embellishments.
