A Two-Part Crash Course

The best time to start building more accessible products was yesterday. The second best time is now. Accessibility is a by-product and we ensure our work is accessible when it doesn't exclude based on abilities, or gender, or socioeconomic background (and more). We can no longer skirt by as designers by deeming disability an edge case.

In this Accessible Design crash course, you’ll walk away with a completely different framework for thinking about your day-to-day role as a designer, and learn the fundamentals needed to ensure you’re designing products, services, and technology that's beneficial for anyone who comes into contact with it.

You'll Learn

  • History and foundations of digital accessibility
  • The role of inclusion in design
  • Stages of accessibility
  • How to consider accessibility from the very beginning of your projects
  • Baking accessible design into your day-to-day workflow
  • How to talk a11y to stakeholders and execs

Session One: Ethics: where it all broke and how to fix it.

Designers, accessibility is a crucial component of your work. It’s also one that all creative practitioners have a responsibility to consider—whether to satisfy legal requirements, provide your clients and their customers the best level of value, or simply to serve the greatest possible audience you can.

The good news is that understanding and implementing important elements of accessibility isn’t as difficult, expensive, or time-consuming as you might think. In this session, Cat will introduce you to the world of accessibility, from its history and the importance our role plays in moving the needle forward, to a comprehensive understanding of how Designers can enable customers to access the work we produce. Cat will conclude the session with an interactive question-and-answer session, and set a take-home assignment for attendees to work on during the week, building on what they just learnt. There may also be a guest speaker at this session!

Session Two: The day-to-day of accessibility and how to make it mainstream.

In session two of this Accessible Design crash course you’ll not only receive Cat’s actionable design insights, but you’ll also learn that crafting accessible interfaces doesn't mean sacrificing visual aesthetics—after leaving this Dribbble crash course you’ll be more confident in letting accessibility inform your creative process.

Cat and some members of the Stark team will review some student’s assignments and cover multiple iterations you can make on your design. You’ll learn what accessibility looks like in various industries and take a deeper look at the role design plays in making products accessible. During the second session, Cat and some members of the Stark team will examine and critique student projects, interspersed with lots of interactive question-and-answer. Plus, you will gain access to material that you can keep and use in your portfolio.

You'll Receive:

  • Two in-depth, interactive sessions
  • Live Q&A with Cat in each session
  • Access to an exclusive community group of classmates from around the globe
  • Take-home assignments designed for feedback in Session Two
  • Live feedback on your projects and advice from Cat
  • Curated templates and PDFs of course content
  • Live-recorded session access for up to 2-weeks post-session
