Lead Graphic Designer

The Long Beach Post is looking for a full-time, lead graphic designer to join our growing cross-disciplinary product and agency services team.

Our team’s role is two-fold. First, we provide product support to the Long Beach Post’s award-winning newsroom, whether that means building tools to make our journalists’ work possible, designing page layouts to help them tell their stories or creating interactive experiences that allow our readers to more deeply discover our reporters’ work.

Second, as part of the Long Beach Post’s full-service agency StudioLBP, we provide the same broad spectrum of high-quality work to outside clients and community organizations. In addition to display and programmatic advertising, StudioLBP offers businesses graphic design, UX and UI design, web development, e-commerce solutions, video and audio production, sponsored content copywriting, media outreach, social media campaigns and more.

Your role

As a small team, we all get to have our hands in a lot of projects. For you, this will mean:

Being our brand champion

You’ll have a chance to take the lead on the ongoing development and future of the Long Beach Post/Long Beach Business Journal and their associated brands like the Hi-lo, our arts and culture digital magazine, Long Beach Post Sports, our collaboration with the562.org, StudioLBP itself and more.

Constantly iterating and improving

Nothing’s ever set in stone, we’re constantly evolving as a brand. If you see something you think could look better, redesign it. If you see a piece going out that doesn’t match our brand, intercept it. If you think the “way it’s always been done” could be done better, do it.

Moving between print and digital

While the majority of our work happens online, twice a month we put out the Long Beach Business Journal, an industry-specific print publication that’s been in circulation since the 1980s. You’ll be in charge of not only laying out the publication, but deciding what a modern business journal should look like.

You’ll also work with our programming team to bring a designer’s eye to our ever-changing list of digital products, including our flagship websites and other interactive tools.
