Graphic designer in Sendai, Japan

Hi everyone. We are Communa Inc. in Sendai, Japan, and currently, we are looking for a graphic designer who can work with us full time.

We are looking for a graphic designer who...

...can speak at least conversational Japanese

...can enjoy working with small local companies

...is a good communicator

- ABOUT US

Communa Inc. is a company located in Sendai, Japan, founded in 2011 in response to the earthquake and tsunami that struck the the region earlier that year. We are a multidisciplinary company combining the skills of translation, marketing, and design. We work both internationally and locally in the areas such as collaboration with traditional crafts, working with local governments, and supporting local companies.

- JOB OVERVIEW

As a designer in our team, you will be working in the field of graphic design producing items such as pamphlets, posters, flyers, corporate identity, and various design items related to websites. We believe it is a unique position deeply engaging in the local community and its culture.

- KEY ELEMENTS

[Working with people from diverse backgrounds]

We are a team of diverse skills and backgrounds. We have translator, marketer, website designer, tourism specialist, among others. You will be [for now] the only graphic designer. So the good side about it is that it's a unique environment of inter-learning and experiment. But if you're looking for design firm with many designers and clear focus on design works exclusively, our company might not be what you're looking for.

[Communicating with people who are not always familiar to graphic design]

We often work with cultural institutes, who are very design-savvy. But we also work with local companies who are not accustomed to design process. Honestly speaking, it is sometimes frustrating in terms of graphic design or translation. But these clients often give us unique insight about local culture and interesting experiences in the community.

[Interest in Local Culture]

Our work is rooted in local culture, such as crafts, local food, local artists, etc., involving elements that are sometimes not familiar even to local Japanese people. So curiosity and flexibility in the way of thinking is a key.

We can arrange the work visa for you. so, although it depends on COVID-19 situation, applicants from aborad are welcome too.
