Senior Web Graphic Designer

Functions

  • Conceptualize, design, and produce a wide variety of web and digital graphics that are well designed, visually appealing, easy to understand, and consistent with the usage of the organization’s visual brand—in collaboration with other Purdue for Life Foundation marketing and communications colleagues.

  • Collaborate with graphic designer teammates to create wireframes for new pages and assist web developers in their creation.

  • Participate in creative discussion and provide input on web design as it pertains to the overall look of consistent marketing materials.

  • Work to improve the usability, usefulness, and appearance of foundation web content.

  • Update existing sites as needed based on foundation brand guidelines and strive for consistency.

  • Work with web developers to define UI/UX and branding requirements for websites and web applications, and to provide hands-on implementation of the UI design elements with HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

  • Design and develop UI features, site graphics, animation, and special-effects elements.

  • Manage website design projects by developing and sharing production timelines and providing timely communications with web team members and other colleagues.

  • Work collaboratively and collegially with Purdue for Life Foundation colleagues (fundraisers, donor and alumni relations staff, special events staff, Purdue for Life leadership) to complete projects on time, error-free, and with high quality.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with communications team colleagues to create graphic design solutions based on project brief and internal staff input and translate projects to the web and other digital needs of the organization.

  • In partnership with the senior web developer and senior creative director, develop a web style guide.

  • Manage assigned creative projects from concept through completion.

  • As needed, attend and participate in Purdue for Life Foundation sponsored programs and events.

  • As needed, work in cooperation with the Purdue University Marketing and Communications team and freelancers.

  • Other duties as assigned

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • Strong demonstration of design fundamentals—excellent typography, composition, and conceptual thinking skills

  • Experience working with WordPress web applications, modifying HTML, and applying CSS, as needed 

  • Hands-on coding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and JQuery

  • Proficiency with design and prototyping tools, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe XD, and Sketch

  • Experience with Content Management Systems (CMS)—such as WordPress, Sitecore, and Cascade—is preferred

  • Proficient in prepping and exporting assets for web

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Attention to detail and an understanding of the importance of following directions and being meticulous

  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to plan and prioritize

  • Must be open to critique and constructive feedback

  • Must be able to multitask and make decisions while working in a fast-paced team environment

  • Must be detail-oriented and deadline-driven, completing tasks and projects error-free and on time

  • Ability to proofread and understand standard proofing marks

  • Project management experience required

  • Ability to work with limited supervision

Education/Experience

  • Three to five years of experience in web and visual design

  • Bachelor’s degree required; prefer concentration in web design, graphic design, or related field

  • Experience in a higher education or an in-house marketing/design department setting preferred

  • Combination of related education and experience may be considered
