About Banter

Online shopping hasn't changed in twenty years. We go through the same customer journe using the same features of add to cart, ratings, and reviews.

Worse, everytime we go to an online store, we are completely alone. While online shopping is convenient, it doesn't feel good. eCommerce stores have stripped out emotion to become more like vending machines.

We believe commerce is at an inflection point. We are building Banter to productize the emotion of shopping. We are doing so by transforming storefronts from single-player to multiplayer experiences.

Reimagining the website as the place where consumers shop, socialize and learn will change how it feels to shop online.

About this Role

We are seeking a creative and experienced UX Designer to join Banter as a founding member. As our founding UX Designer, you will play a crucial role in defining and executing the vision of our brand and product. You will collaborate closely with our co-founders and engineers a user-centered experience that aligns with our desire to create a new social context where people can form community and accrue status. We want to expand the value that users receive from communities through new ways of creating and consuming content that create belonging and entertainment.

Expect yourself to work designing products that create completely new forms of social interaction online. Common exercises will include reflecting on questions like:

  • When a user signs up for your product, what should be the first emotion they feel?

  • What are the weirdest examples of chat? Why aren’t we doing that?

  • What is state of the art photo sharing? How does it suck?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of the user interface and user experience of our ecommerce platform from concept to launch.

  • Create user journeys, wireframes, prototypes, and visual designs to effectively communicate design ideas and concepts to cross-functional teams.

  • Conduct user research, gather feedback and iterate on designs to ensure user needs are met, and the product meets business goals.

  • Work closely with the development team to ensure design implementation is consistent and visually appealing.

  • Create and maintain design systems and style guides to ensure consistency across all channels.

  • Stay up-to-date with the latest design trends and techniques, and identify areas for innovation and improvement.


  • Bachelor's degree in Design, UX/UI Design, Human-Computer Interaction, or related field.

  • 3 years of experience in UX/UI Design for digital products, with a strong portfolio of work showcasing your design skills and experience.

  • Proficiency in design and prototyping tools such as Sketch, Figma, Adobe Creative Suite, and InVision.

  • Experience with conducting user research, testing, and data analysis to inform design decisions.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with a track record of working cross-functionally in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

  • Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently, and comfortable with ambiguity
