Motifmotion seeks a skilled, experienced Creative Director to lead the visual development and quality control of 2D animation projects, on a contracted basis.
The Creative Director will be responsible for identifying a broad visual style with the client and working with artists to deliver a style that the client approves. They will work closely with project managers and visual creatives (storyboard artists, illustrators, animators and sound designers) at each phase to ensure the successful delivery of highly engaging, visually compelling pieces. This role includes defined responsibilities, but the ideal candidate will be happy to wear different hats when a project requires it, adapting to the needs of a particular production.
NOTE - For this role, we are not seeking production teams, or project illustrators/animators. We are seeking an experienced individual with deep experience in directing the visual language of an animation, ensuring quality at every step, and communicating a vision to our clients.
Attend discovery meetings with the heads of the studio and/or receive recorded discovery meetings.
Develop a sense for the visual style, based on video goals, client desires, and overall messaging needs.
Create and deliver mood boards to reflect visual direction.
Lead pitch presentations around visual direction
Work with heads of studio to identify correct artists to partner with on each project.
Clearly communicate design and motion ideas to clients and creatives
Assist the project manager as they organize and develop schedule meetings related to the project both internally and with clients.
Coordinate with the project manager to discuss the status of assets/shots within each stage of development and confirm the updates to tracking software with current statuses.
Provide creative direction and feedback to the development of a project’s designs and animation.
Oversee storyboard development.
Oversee audio mix/stock footage/video selection/VO recording.
Present internal review meetings to the heads of the studio at key development stages of a project with first pass review notes ready.
Provide a QC pass for all designs and videos before client review and final delivery to check the consistency with client direction notes and screen for potential technical complications (output errors, glitches, etc).
Guide clients and team members to solutions, in the event of roadblocks.
8+ years of experience in design and animation
2+ years of managing creative team members
Expert skills in Illustrator, Photoshop, After Effects
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
Self motivated with strong organizational skills
