Web Designer /Front-end Developer Intern

Night Owls is an award-winning boutique creative digital agency located in New York City’s Soho. We specialize in building user-friendly custom websites, web applications, and mobile applications.


We are seeking a talented and passionate UX Designer/Front-end Intern to join our growing team. We're a small agency so every new person makes a big impact. You can expect to work closely with our Lead Designer and Developer and take on responsibilities that push you to learn and grow your skills. Responsibilities/Qualifications:

Design is the process of thinking, planning, and imagining products that effectively solve problems for our clients. In addition to creating compelling visuals, our design team plays a key part in crafting intuitive user experiences through wireframing, mapping user flows and navigation, and developing micro-interactions. 

Strong visual design aesthetic and conceptual thinking. Strong handle of layout, navigation, typography, colors, and image composition as applied to web and mobile experiences.

Can work both autonomously and collaboratively with the team. As a designer, you will not only be expected to bring your own creative ideas to the table but also flawlessly execute on the shared project vision.

Comfortable working efficiently in the Adobe Suite and Sketch.

Create visual design elements for projects under the guidance of our Lead Designer and Developer as well participate in internal design reviews and stakeholder meetings.

Translating requirements and mock-ups into fully functioning features using HTML/CSS expert-level knowledge and Javascript frameworks, e.g. jQuery, a plus

Code clean HTML/CSS table and table-less layouts for both emails and web pages.

Rudimentary CSS/HTML/Javascript coding for front end UI features and effects (rollovers, tabbed interfaces, image swappers and overlays etc.)

Engage in overall quality assurance testing with an emphasis on troubleshooting cross browser/email client issues as well creating and sharing a knowledge base on front end developer-related issues.

Be proficient at testing on different operating systems and browsers/email clients (e.g. Macs & PCs: Safari, Firefox, Chrome, IE).

Experience with themeing or skinning popular CMS platforms (ie. Drupal, Wordpress, Magento, etc.) a plus.

Experience with Git and Github.

Familiarity with Sketch (e.g. basic image slicing/production)

A desire to create modular, reusable and maintainable code.

A desire to create best-in-class products using bleeding-edge web technologies

A good sense of design and an eye for detail with a positive attitude and love working with a team

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially when talking about design and collaborating with other team members. 

Able to self-manage and prioritize tasks to ensure work is delivered on time.

BFA/BA/BS or equivalent industry experience in related field with solid knowledge of industry tools and understanding of designing intuitive and responsive user experiences.


We offer

We offer perks like weekly monday breakfast, team lunches on friday, regular friday happy hours, monthly team outings, stocked kitchen and beverages provided with snacks. PLEASE NOTE: This is an unpaid internship, we are more than willing to fill out any paperwork necessary to provide school credit. Full Time hours available, 40 hrs/wk, M-F or Part Time minimum hours 24-32 hrs/wk,.  Candidates will be expected to work unpaid for at least three (3) months. After that time, the company will decide whether or not to move them to a paid position and from temp. to full time hire.
