Design Director

The Gnar Company is a fast-growing software consultancy seeking a Design Director to continue to grow our User Experience Design practice. You'll be responsible for overseeing design projects to ensure complete, high-quality work on time and budget.

This is a remote, salaried position with a strong benefits package and performance bonuses based on department goals. You will be a leading member of The Gnar’s flat organizational structure and directly contribute to company growth. This role reports directly to our small, supportive team of founders, but you call the shots.

• Knowledgeable of modern web design UI/UX practices

Responsibilities

• Develop an industry-leading design department

  • Determine quality standards and hold teammates accountable

  • Develop processes that encourage collaboration and a supportive culture

  • Support the growth of teammates

  • Build a great team, responsible for staffing and identifying great people

  • Provide specific, critical feedback to teammates in an empathetic manner

• Manage design projects

  • Work on projects in a wide range of industries and project sizes

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create elegant solutions to difficult problems

  • Lead multiple project teams (designers and contractors) to deliver high-quality work on time and budget

  • Work seamlessly with other team members (engineers, business analysts, QA)

• Build a profitable business

  • Develop strong positive relationships with clients

  • Highlight department experience and processes to prospective clients to attract new business

You have…

• 8+ years designing software (web and mobile applications)

• 5+ years of design leadership/management experience

• A fondness for The Gnar’s brand identity

• Proficiency with modern design and prototyping tools, particularly Figma/FigJam

• Previous consulting experience

• U.S. citizenship (sorry, no sponsored visas.)

It’d be nice if you have…

• Experience writing UX copy

• Experience designing apps for React and React Native

• Research experience (user interviews, user testing)

Salary: $160K - 180K
