Design Director

We are looking for a leader to set a high bar for design across both product and marketing, instilling a design-led culture within our business. An all-rounder, you will be oversee branding, UI, UX, advertising, swag...even office design!

 What you will be doing as a Director of Design at Busuu…

• Own every part of Busuu’s design: brand, apps, website, out-of-home advertising, display banner advertising, emails and in-app messages, app store listings… if it needs designing, it needs you!
• Manage requirements to deliver designs effectively and to the highest standard.
• Improve design processes, workflow and tools, so we can do more, better and faster.
• Maintain and evolve our atomic design system.
• Collaborate with Product and Marketing leadership to drive strategy. 
• Roll up your sleeves and ship your own designs when needed.
• Lead a strong team of 3 experienced designers and guide them in their professional development. 
• Hire and develop more designers as we grow.
• Be a thought-leader and the face of design at Busuu. You enjoy writing, speaking, or running events in order to share what we do.

What you bring to the table...

• You’ve managed designers before!
• Equally "right and left brained”: you mix process and analytical thinking with unbridled creativity and impeccable taste. There is method in your madness.
• You are a systems thinker. You love creating guidelines, styleguides and design systems.
• Ready and confident to own a global brand seen by millions and take it to the next level. 
• You can develop the approach for tackling a problem and have deep knowledge of various design methodologies. 
• You enjoy improving design workflows and exploring new tools. 
• Experience in designing user interfaces for a wide variety of form factors. 
• You're an excellent communicator of design work and the rationale behind your proposals.
