As the Senior Systems Designer, you will lead our design systems efforts and up-level the visual quality our all Earnest products. You will be responsible for creating, maintaining and evolving the foundational UI components, patterns, tools and documentation of our design system across platforms. In your role, you will collaborate closely with design engineers, product, and brand designers across Earnest to make our product delightful, accessible and visually pleasing to students.

 

What you'll do:

Systems/ UI design

  • Create UI components for product flows
  • Set new standards for visual craft and execution across our product
  • Build and maintain components for the Earnest design system
  • Further understanding and adherence to the fundamentals of color, spacing and typography across products
  • Design components and toolkits that are WCAG compliant and accessible

Strategy and Execution

  • Partner with Product designers to identify key opportunities to meet and prioritize user and business needs
  • Own design strategy and communicate a vision for the design system
  • Understand business and technical needs.
  • Partner closely with Engineering to ensure our implementation and user experience is of high-quality
  • Advocate for the design system throughout the company, representing the team in product discussions and educating others on how to use the system

System Development

  • Sketch and prototype ideas to quickly access viability, and design the fine-grained details of interactions
  • Work with front end engineering teams for web and mobile user interfaces, including participating in code reviews
  • Create and iterate on solutions that are inspired by a deep empathy for our users
  • Ideate new product features and improvements
  • Work collaboratively to prioritize feature ideas
  • Build a systems tracker to understand usage and impact of the design system

UX Design

  • Develop strategic insights and strategies to guide UX development
  • Create detailed product toolkits and templates for product designers 
  • Create screen by screen interactions utilizing product paradigms

Leadership

  • Mentor junior members of the Design team
  • Present at team and company level meetings

 

Ideal background and expertise:

  • 5+ years designing product design systems and component libraries 
  • Experience working with both UX and UI design
  • High proficiency in Figma and building Figma libraries
  • Familiarity with Storybook and react JS components
  • Ability to analyze and use data/ research to inform design decisions
  • Experience leading and launching a design system and product toolkits
  • Ability to measure usage and impact of design system
