Web Designer

About Abstract

Abstract is a design workflow management platform supporting modern design teams with version control, file management, and team collaboration. Just one year in, thousands of loyal customers including Shopify, Intuit, and Unity, are using Abstract to manage their design workflow. Abstract is a technically ambitious product and we’re looking forward to seeing how you can contribute to these goals. The best candidates will be capable and enthusiastic about building out a world-class team and product with us.

At Abstract, we are actively working to build a diverse and inclusive organization. Here, diversity includes age, economic class, educational background, ethnic variance, familial status, gender, gender expression, gender identity, marital status, national origin, religious affiliation, sex, sexual orientation, transgender status, or veteran status.

Abstract is headquartered in San Francisco and is backed by Amplify PartnersCowboy Ventures, First Round CapitalScale Venture Partners and others. We announced our $16MM series B funding in May 2018.

Who you'll work with:

  • The design team is currently made up of 3 product designers, 3 brand designers and a design director
  • You’ll be reporting to Heather Phillips, our Design Director.
  • Current members of the brand design team:
  • Morgan Keys is a Brand Designer with a love for physical brand and strong campaigns. If she’s not designing, she’s probably outside somewhere.
  • Hugo Baeta is a Brand Designer and is hands-on in not only designing for our website but also building it. All of your pixel perfect interactions designs can come true! He also loves pilates.
  • Daina Lightfoot is a Brand Designer who can often be found working on our illustrations and website, weightlifting or in the mountains.

As an early member of Abstract’s design team, you will help shape our culture of design and play an instrumental role in crafting the future of our brand.

What you'll do:

  • Evolve the visual identity of Abstract, by designing consistent experiences across all of our touch points, with a focus on our marketing website and digital campaigns
  • Create new and unique experiences; we’re designing for designers and want to push our creative boundaries (you won’t be reimagining the same landing page over and over).
  • Work cross-functionally with marketing and other stakeholders to arrive at the best possible design solutions, continually raising our bar for quality.
  • Execute projects across their entire lifecycle with our marketing team— plan, iterate, deliver, test, iterate some more.
  • Communicate animation/interaction using your tool of choice.
  • Build our brand identity around motion and continue to evolve our web design system.

What you’ll bring:

  • Strong foundation in design fundamentals, including a deep understanding of typography, layout, color, and ability to apply these principles across our digital presence.
  • Experience working with in-house design teams or agencies.
  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills, including explaining your work, process, decisions, and actively seeking out feedback.
  • Always on the lookout for ways to improve your workflow and are up-to-date on the latest design tools and web technologies. You spend as much time on CodePen as you do on Dribbble.
  • Actively pay attention to trends in the community and have opinions on the future of design.

Interview Process

As part of the interview process, be prepared to present a portfolio of your previous work. We’re particularly excited to see how you approach problem solving, decision-making, and process to see how you arrived at your final designs. We’re looking forward to meeting you!
