Sr UX Designer

Job summary

We are looking for an experienced UX Designer to join our growing team at PubNub. You will be working within a cross-functional team to deliver great experiences for developers and product managers in a wide range of industries. This is an exciting time to join where you can bring new ideas to life and play a key role in shaping the way design works at PubNub. We want you to work in the way that is best for you so you’ll have flexibility to work from home or our London office. You will be engaging with our product team, some of whom are based in the US (West Coast), so flexibility to attend some evening meetings would be preferred.

You can expect to be involved in a wide range of activities at every stage of the UX design process and across multiple key projects. This will include research, ideation, crafting user flows, defining information architecture, prototyping and testing with end users. The work is fast paced and you’ll see yourself making an impact quickly, both on projects and through introducing your expert practices to the team.

You will have a proven record of solving problems in creative, user-centered ways to deliver desirable and engaging experiences. As well as understanding problems and crafting high quality designs, you’ll be able to spot strategic opportunities and inspire fellow designers and stakeholders through design thinking and a passion for users. You will be a lead within the team, setting a great example and supporting others through mentoring, guidance and critique.

Job responsibilities

  • Organize and lead research to ensure users are integral to the design process
  • Collaborate with team members and stakeholders to gather requirements and write compelling problem statements as a basis for ideation
  • Quickly and iteratively produce sketched concepts, user journeys, wireframes and interactive prototypes that reflect user needs
  • Facilitate workshops to create a shared understanding, inspire creativity and critique work
  • Playback your own design work, presenting your ideas and reasoning to get buy-in
  • Plan and conduct user testing, choosing the most appropriate methodology to achieve your goal
  • Use analytics and metrics to make informed design decisions
  • Influence and improve the design process at PubNub
  • Mentor junior designers to support the growth of UX skills within the team

Required Skills and Experience Essential

  • Expert knowledge of UX best practices and techniques
  • Flexibility and adaptability
  • Self-motivated, with a willingness to take responsibility for projects and development
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills - you will be comfortable selling design concepts to people from various backgrounds and levels of seniority
  • Negotiation and influencing skills
  • Ability to balance the needs of the business with those of our users
  • 5+ years industry experience in a UX role
  • A portfolio that shows application of your skills to complex real-world projects with proven successful outcomes
  • Expertise in standard UX software e.g. Figma, Axure, and Adobe Suite

Bonus

  • This role will be focused on UX but UI skills, and a willingness to get hands on with whatever tasks need doing, would be a bonus
  • Experience designing for a range of formats e.g. web and mobile
  • Experience designing B2B solutions
  • Experience working within Agile environments
  • Knowledge of WCAG 2.1 accessibility requirements relating to design
  • Higher education degree/certification in Design (e.g. Interaction, Graphic, Visual, Product, UX), HCI or related field
